We’ve seen the glory of Chapter 1: Creation. We’ve watched the tragedy of Chapter 2: The Fall and the first gospel promise. We’ve traced the scarlet thread of 300+ prophecies across centuries. Now the curtain rises on the moment the entire Bible has been hurtling toward. The arrival of the Promised One.
“So the Word became human and made His home among us.”
Let’s be clear this is not a Hallmark scene but the greatest rescue mission in history. The eternal Son—through whom galaxies were spoken, oceans filled, and hearts first beat, left the throne room, and parachuted behind enemy lines in the most dangerous way possible:
As a baby.
Helpless.
Unable to walk, talk, or feed Himself.
Needing His diaper changed by a teenage girl He Himself had created.
The One who spoke “Let there be light” now learned to say “Father.”
The hands that placed the stars now had tiny fingers that grasped Mary’s hair.
If that doesn’t strike a chord in your heart, you’re not paying attention.
True love always makes itself vulnerable.
If you refuse to be weak, you will never truly love.
And so Love came weak.
Why?
Because the promise made in Eden was now going operational.
I’m declaring war between you and the Woman, between your offspring and hers. He’ll wound your head, you’ll wound his heel. Genesis 3:14-15 MSG
How do we know?
“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8 ESV
Jesus stood up in the synagogue in Nazareth, unrolled the scroll of Isaiah, and simply read His assignment out loud:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me…
to proclaim freedom for the prisoners,
recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
— Luke 4:18-19
Translation:
“I declared war in Genesis 3:15 and the smack is coming down. I am canceling sin’s debt, disarming the powers of darkness, restoring what the serpent damaged, and taking back what he stole.”
Philippians 2 tells us exactly how far He was willing to go:
He emptied Himself.
Took the form of a servant.
Became obedient… to death—even death on a cross.
The Author walked onto the battlefield, let the enemy strike His heel and then crushed the serpent’s head.
“He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, He disarmed the rulers and authorities and shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the cross.”
— Colossians 2:14-15 NLT
He not only won the war but he then equipped us for the battles ahead.
“It is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come…
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be My witnesses…
to the ends of the earth.” John 16:7 & Acts 1:8
He breathed the same Spirit into His terrified followers in an upper room that also put life in humanity.
He armed them with spiritual weapons the gates of hell cannot withstand:
• Gifts: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues, interpretation
• Fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
And He built His Church –
an unstoppable force that hell itself cannot conquer (Matthew 16:18).
This is where we are right now in the story.
Between the cross and the crown.
Between “It is finished” and “Behold, I am making all things new.”
The baby in the manger became the Warrior on the cross.
The Warrior on the cross became the King on the throne.
And one day—maybe soon—the sky will rip open.
“In a moment, in the blink of an eye…
the last trumpet will sound…
the dead will be raised…
and we shall be changed.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:52
The same Jesus who came the first time as a vulnerable infant. will return as the Lion of Judah, eyes blazing, sword flashing, riding a white horse with “King of kings and Lord of lords” written on His thigh.
Every knee will bow.
Every tear will be wiped.
Every broken story will suddenly make glorious sense.
This is Advent.
Not just remembering a baby in Bethlehem, but rehearsing for the day the Warrior returns to finish the rescue.
The mission is not over.
The enemy is already defeated but the battles rage on,
The King is already victorious.
And the next sound you hear might just be a trumpet.
Come, Lord Jesus.
We’re ready for the final chapter.
Are you starting to see the tale you’ve fallen into?
Jesus the Author.
Jesus the Creator.
Jesus the Promise.
Jesus the Warrior
